Radiesse
If you are noticing facial volume loss, crepey skin, reduced firmness or changes in skin texture, Radiesse® or Hyperdilute Radiesse may be worth exploring.
As we age, our skin naturally begins to change. Collagen production slows, elasticity decreases, and the underlying structures that once gave our face and body a smooth, youthful appearance gradually lose support. Fine lines become more noticeable, skin may begin to look thinner or less firm, and areas that once appeared full can develop visible volume loss. At Modesto Aesthetics & Laser, we believe that beautiful, natural-looking results begin with understanding how the skin ages and choosing treatments that work with your body’s natural processes.
Radiesse® and Hyperdilute Radiesse are innovative injectable treatments designed to address different aspects of aging. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, which primarily add volume by attracting and retaining moisture, Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) biostimulator that provides structural support while encouraging the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. When used in a hyperdiluted form, Radiesse® can also help improve skin quality, firmness and texture over time.
Our experienced medical aesthetic providers are committed to advanced training, personalized treatment planning and techniques that enhance your natural appearance without making you look overdone.
What Is Radiesse and How Does It Work?
Radiesse® is an FDA-approved dermal filler made with calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a biocompatible material that has been used in medicine for many years. What makes Radiesse® different from many traditional fillers is its ability to provide immediate structural support while also stimulating the skin’s natural regenerative processes.
When Radiesse® is injected into an appropriate treatment area, the gel provides an immediate filling effect. Over time, the gel carrier is absorbed, while the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres act as a scaffold that encourages the production of new collagen and elastin. These proteins play an important role in maintaining skin firmness, elasticity and structural integrity.
Rather than focusing exclusively on filling lines or replacing lost volume, Radiesse® offers an approach that combines immediate correction with gradual improvements in the skin’s underlying support system.
What Is Hyperdilute Radiesse?
Hyperdilute Radiesse is a specialized technique in which Radiesse® is diluted with sterile saline, sometimes along with lidocaine, to create a thinner consistency that can be distributed more broadly across selected treatment areas.
While traditional Radiesse® is often used to restore volume and provide structural support, Hyperdilute Radiesse focuses primarily on improving skin quality through biostimulation. The goal is not to create significant fullness but to encourage collagen and elastin production in areas where skin has become thinner, crepey or less firm.
As the skin responds to treatment over the following weeks and months, patients may notice gradual improvements in texture, elasticity and overall skin appearance. Because these changes develop through the body’s natural collagen-building process, results typically appear progressively rather than immediately.
Hyperdilute Radiesse is frequently discussed as an option for skin rejuvenation beyond the face, particularly in areas where loss of firmness and elasticity becomes more noticeable with age.
What is the Difference Between Biostimulators and HA Fillers?
One of the most common questions we hear from patients is how Radiesse® differs from traditional hyaluronic acid fillers.
Hyaluronic acid, often referred to as HA, is a substance naturally found in the body that helps attract and retain moisture. HA-based dermal fillers are commonly used to restore facial volume, soften wrinkles and enhance facial contours. Depending on the product and treatment area, they can provide immediate, natural-looking improvements by adding volume to the injected area.
Radiesse® works differently because of its calcium hydroxylapatite composition. In addition to providing an immediate filling effect when used in its traditional form, it stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping support longer-term improvements in the skin’s structure. Hyperdilute Radiesse takes this approach a step further by shifting the focus away from adding volume and toward improving skin quality.
Neither treatment is necessarily better than the other. The right choice depends on your anatomy, skin condition, treatment area and desired outcome. In some cases, different injectable treatments may complement one another as part of a comprehensive aesthetic treatment plan.
Our goal is always to recommend treatments that make sense for your individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Improving Crepey Skin, Skin Laxity and Loss of Firmness and Volume
The effects of aging on the skin involve more than wrinkles. As collagen and elastin production decline, skin can gradually lose its ability to remain firm, smooth and resilient. Sun exposure, genetics, hormonal changes and lifestyle factors can also contribute to changes in skin texture and elasticity. Excessive weight loss especially from GLP1 medications can also cause volume loss in the face.
These changes may be especially noticeable along the face, neck, décolleté, upper arms and other areas where skin is naturally thinner or frequently exposed to the sun.
Hyperdilute Radiesse address selected concerns involving crepey texture and mild skin laxity. By encouraging collagen and elastin production, the treatment may help improve the appearance of skin firmness and smoothness over time.
What Areas Can Be Treated With Radiesse?
Traditional Radiesse® is FDA-approved for correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds, and for improving moderate to severe jawline contour loss in adults. Radiesse® is also approved for restoring volume in the backs of the hands.
Hyperdilute Radiesse may be used in selected areas where improving skin quality is the primary goal. These can include the neck, décolleté and certain areas of the body affected by crepey skin or mild laxity.
The ideal treatment area depends on skin thickness, anatomy, overall health and the desired result. Not every area is appropriate for Radiesse®, and careful product placement is essential.
How Long Do Radiesse Results Last?
One of the appealing characteristics of Radiesse is its ability to provide results that may continue beyond the initial filling effect.
Traditional Radiesse® can offer immediate visible improvement, with results that may last a year or longer depending on the treatment area, individual metabolism and other factors.
Hyperdilute Radiesse produces a different type of response. Because its primary purpose is collagen stimulation rather than volume replacement, improvements generally develop gradually over several weeks to months. Some patients may benefit from a series of treatments, and maintenance recommendations depend on individual goals and response.
There is no single treatment schedule that works for everyone. Our providers will discuss what you can reasonably expect and whether additional treatments may be beneficial.
