What is Melasma?

Melasma is a common skin condition that affects both men and women. Melasma is hormonally driven. It occurs most often on the face in the form of dark pigmented patches and discolorations on the face. Melasma can affect or destroy a person’s self confidence. Until now people who battled melasma did not have a lot of treatments available other than topical skin care products that help lighten and minimize the look of melasma.

LaseMD can treat minor issues, such as light skin resurfacing on almost any area of the body leaving a youthful glow, as well as provide a deeper treatment for fine lines, high pigmentation, moderate to severe sun damage, active acne and acne scars. LaseMD is also known as LaseMD Ultra and is more than just an aesthetic laser. It is FDA approved to remove pre-cancerous growths caused by exposure to UV rays, called actinic keratosis, or AK.  How Does the Treatment Feel and What is the Downtime?

LaseMD patients are given a topical anesthetic 30 to 45 minutes prior to their treatment and may experience some discomfort during the treatment.  Some patients experience a mild burning sensation immediately after treatment, but it typically resolves in 1 to 2 hours and can be relieved with use of a sterile ice pack. While patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment, they may want to avoid excessive exercise until the treated area has healed. Increased redness may come from any activity that increases blood flow. All skin that is treated must be kept out of the sun with a medical grade UV sunscreen. The downtime is minimal for most patients. You skin may be somewhat pink or red and irritated for 1-2 days following your treatment. Most patients can go back to makeup 1-3 days following the treatment.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Most patients receive 3 treatments for most skin conditions. The number of treatments needed to reach the goal of the individual may vary and the number of treatments needed does also depend on the severity of the skin condition(s).
